Athlete Expectations

Attendance: Athletes are expected to attend practice and be on time to all practice sessions. There is a strong correlation between practice, performance, and minimizing risk of injury. Timely communication regarding potential unforeseen conflicts with practice time is expected. Coaching staff is willing to work with student athletes regarding potential excused absences when communication is valued and practiced. Excused absences include, but not limited to: funeral, sickness, family emergency, etc. Dentist and doctor appointments should be scheduled outside of practice time. Any other absences are considered unexcused including work schedules and excessive homework. You are expected to manage your schedule and plan ahead. Unexcused absences will result in progressive discipline / consequences including meet suspension, conference with coach, and potential dismissal from team. To communicate regarding absence, you are required {when possible} to give Coach Monk a minimum 24 hour notice via group me direct message or through xc stats {see team management and attendance - planned absences}. Plan ahead! No advance communication is automatically considered an unexcused absence.

Participation Expectations: By choosing to participate, students are making a commitment of their time that requires discipline, motivation, teamwork, and a strong work ethic. Students are acknowledging that they can manage their academic responsibilities and other personal obligations while honoring the expectations and requirements off and on the cross country team. By choosing to participate in cross country an athlete may have to forego other activities that conflict with practice and competition. There are no tryouts based on running performance, however students will not to be able to participate if they cannot meet the practice attendance expectations described above.
